Vernon Hills, IL—Kaitlyn Corsiglia, the a 24-year-old author of The Sunflower Field, delighted young ones at our Hawthorn Mall bookstore during her book reading on January 18th.

It was three years ago that Kaitlyn began the journey with her first children’s book. She was 21 years old and made the decision that she was going to go to Africa for a mission trip. While the money for her journey was being raised, she was also packing up to leave Alabama and move back to Indiana.

“One morning on my hour long commute to work I was praying to God and asking for a sign, she says. “Well He gave me one… the minute I got to work I ran to my computer and started jotting down what God spoke to me. He gave me a simple message along the lines of ‘tend to the seeds people plant in our hearts.’ Simple but overall it struck me very strongly and stayed with me through my trip to Africa. I wanted to speak to the church about it but the timing never lined up right… upon returning home I felt more lost than ever, I had things to unpack and life to figure out again.”

Hiking and being outside bring Kaitlyn much joy and her favorite color is yellow. She lives in Indiana with her husband, Justin, and a chiweenie named Peanut.
