Join Bill Rapp at a live in-store discussion about three of his books, all part of the Cold War Thriller series—Tears of Innocence, set primarily in Berlin the months following the end of the war; The Hapsburg Variation, which takes the story of CIA officer Karl Baier to 1955 Vienna, and The Budapest Escape, set during the Hungarian revolt and Soviet invasion in 1956. All three revolve around the career of the fictional Karl Baier and his German-born wife Sabine.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Bill Rapp began his adult life as an academic historian (B.A., University of Notre Dame; M.A., University of Toronto; Ph.D., Vanderbilt University) and taught European History at Iowa State University for one year. Although he signed a tenure-track contract with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Bill decided he needed something a little less sedentary, so he spent the next 35 years as an intelligence analyst, diplomat, and senior executive at the Central Intelligence Agency, experiences he draws on for his Cold War Thriller series.
He spent the bulk of his career in the Washington, D.C. area, and nine years overseas with tours in Berlin, Ottawa, Baghdad, and London. Bill retired in 2017, but continues to work part-time for the Agency as a consultant and foreign trainer.
His Cold War Thriller series follows the exploits of CIA officer Karl Baier, as the Agency and the United States adjust and grow into their roles as the pre-eminent intelligence Agency and global power in the decades following the end of World War II. Bill also has a three-book private detective series set in the Chicago area, where he grew up. His first novel is a thriller set in Berlin during the fall of the Wall, an event he experienced first hand during his assignment to the U.S. Mission in Berlin.
He currently lives in northern Virginia with his wife Cynthia, two daughters Eleanor and Julie, and his two miniature schnauzers Moose and Mitzi. There is also a cat, Linus, who shows up most days.
