Arts for Alzheimer’s Two-Day Event
September 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am – September 22, 2019 @ 6:00 pm
ARTS FOR ALZHEIMER’S: Barbara’s Bookstore at Hawthorn Mall will host a two-day community event to create awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s-Lake County in hopes of finding a cure.
All funds raised will help support the Alzheimer’s Association in their mission to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Since there will be no admission fee to the public, we are relying on corporate sponsors to support our endeavor. Other attempts at raising funds will be via two silent auctions and “Hope Jars” that will be placed throughout the bookstore for those who wish to contribute a donation. Barbara’s Bookstore will also donate 5% proceeds of their book sales to Alzheimer’s Association.
Corporate Sponsorship offers an opportunity to support a cause that affects numerous families in Illinois and across the country, while increasing your organization’s visibility in the area.
BECOME A PILLAR SPONSOR: Barbara’s Bookstore has selected 12 pillars located on the main floor of the store (length 36”, width 18” and height 79”) that will be available on a first come first serve basis for corporate sponsorship for $200.00 each for this special weekend. Sponsor to provide all signage for the pillar.
Next to each pillar will be a poster on a stand that addresses topics related to Alzheimer’s disease.
Four (4) pillars will feature: Caregiving statistics, four (4) pillars will feature: Brain Health tips, and four (4) pillars will feature: Alzheimer’s disease facts
Nearby each pillar, there will be a table featuring a book that addresses Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Seuss said: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
DONATE YOUR TALENT AND/OR TIME: With this in mind, Barbara’s Bookstore, which has created neighborhood niches for book lovers since 1963, has orchestrated a weekend event where community members can come together and learn about Alzheimer’s disease via books, art, poetry, live music, author and physician discussions as well as a special presentation delivered by the Alzheimer’s Association on “Effective Communication Strategies” for caregivers.
It’s also a day where people can be inspired, families can bond over their memories, and community members can connect with each other and create new and joyful experiences.
Hawthorn Mall has served as the anchor for family enjoyment in the local community for decades. Recognizing the importance of the memories that they’ve created for families through each generation, they have joined our efforts to be the venue where the arts can educate the community on Alzheimer’s disease. Local schools of all grades, will be contributing art projects that shed light on memory, all of which be featured throughout the mall. Musicians will be performing periodically throughout the mall and in Barbara’s bookstore.
PARTICIPANTS ON BOARD: We are currently compiling our roster of participants. So far, our plans include: The Alzheimer’s Association (Walk To End Alzheimer’s–Lake County), theatre events, live musicians (who will be performing throughout the weekend), children’s programs including book readings, drumming music with neurologist Dr. Charulatha Nagar, book author signings, and more…
READ A BOOK ABOUT ALZHEIMER’S: Our Book Concierge has carefully selected books on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related diseases which will be featured at the event for purchase. The ‘Book Concierge’ will assist all guests in their book selections. Access our Book Club list HERE.
All those who are participating in this event are doing so on a volunteer basis so that 100% of the proceeds raised, will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
If you can’t participate but would like to donate, access the link to Arts for Alzheimer’s donation page HERE. Let’s move the world and cure Alzheimer’s disease.
