A dramatic recounting of the early union movement in Chicago and the tragic events that led to the trial and execution of several prominent union leaders during the 1880s, events which ultimately led to May 1 – “May Day” – becoming an international labor holiday.

Chris Mahin is the Manager of Barbara's Bookstore on State Street, located on the Lower Level of Macy's. Previously, he was Co-Manager at The Bookmarket, a Barbara's in Burr Ridge, Illinois, but he began working for Barbara's in 1997 at the old Navy Pier store. Chris has worked in bookselling—on and off—since 1979. The first bookstore he worked for was The Midnight Special Bookstore in Venice, California, then, at Guild Books here in Chicago during the Harold Washington years.
